How to Guarantee PBM Transparency, Reduce Rx Costs and Maximize Pharmacy Benefits

Skyrocketing prescription drug prices have led Congress and major players in the health care industry to take notice of certain PBM practices that can end up costing health plans and large employers millions of dollars. Hidden costs are making prescription drug benefits extremely expensive for many plans and employers. Find out what steps plans and employers are taking to make sure their PBM contracts contain adequate protections and are truly transparent, which enables them to achieve the lowest feasible drug spend.

Many health plans and large employers are failing to include provisions in their PBM contracts that ensure they receive every dollar due to them. To avoid this, payers must take advantage of their leverage during the request-for-proposal (RFP) process to extract strong contract terms with “real” pass-through pricing and enforceable financial and performance guarantees. And it is critical that plans and employers ask questions during their PBM audits that will ensure they have prescription plans that are most beneficial to their bottom lines.

Two experienced PBM consultants and an executive from the PBM industry engage in a lively discussion of new transparency initiatives, PBM contracts and the crucial strategies Rx payers should employ to save millions of dollars. You’ll get insider perspectives on key questions such as:

  • How will new transparency requirements for government plans translate to the health plan and employer markets?
  • What specific steps must be taken to negotiate transparency into a contract with a prospective PBM?
  • What should you expect from your PBM as a partner to help you and your clients save money?
  • How can benefit design be used to drive down costs without compromising patient outcomes?
  • How can health plans use the RFP process to drive down pharmacy spending?
