Approximately 8.3 million people were covered under individual (non-group) commercial health insurance at the end of 2009, according to AIS’s Directory of Health Plans: 2010. The number of commercial health plan members designated as individual (not part of an employer group) is up 23.5% from 6.7 million a year ago. The directory reveals that 28% of health plans track their individual versus group membership, and this market represents 3.48% of total medical enrollment, 9.26% of commercial risk-based enrollment and 2.67% of the total U.S. population — all increases over the previous year. For the 131 plans reporting individual membership, this market represents 6.2% of total medical enrollment |
